Under pressure from the feds, eBay moved Thursday to shutdown ticket sales to Barack Obama’s swearing-in ceremony. The tickets, which are supposed to be free, won’t actually be doled out until a few days before the event. However, ticket sales for the event were booming on eBay. Caving in to pressure from the Federal Inaugural Committee, eBay Inc. on Thursday removed tickets to the Jan. 20 swearing-in ceremony. eBay’s StubHub subsidiary, which as of Wednesday had tickets to the ceremony listed from a low of $1,950 to a high of $7,500, also removed the items, reports The Washington Post. Nichola Sharpe, eBay spokeswoman, said the main issues discussed at the meeting in Washington were “the distribution method and the monetary value” of the tickets, but she would not give specifics.
